Bobrowiecki Log Home

Growing up in Maine, John Bobrowiecki loved summer lake life—fishing, swimming, and boating. After moving to Virginia for a military career, he and his wife Laura searched for that same peace and found it at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. Their ¾-acre lot offered lake access, privacy, and proximity to skiing and hiking. John had long dreamed of a log home. A cozy winter getaway in a log cabin helped convince Laura, too. During the pandemic, they found Hochstetler Log Homes online and worked with consultant Brett Martin to modify the *Clearfork* floor plan to suit their needs. Their 5,000 sq. ft. home features six bedrooms, four baths, and thoughtful design for accessibility. As a Marine veteran using a wheelchair, John prioritized main-level living, an elevator, and a ramp from the deck to the driveway. The home also includes a handcrafted live-edge bar, wide doorways, and storage areas on each level—ideal for both personal use and vacation rentals. A gas fireplace indoors and wood-burning fireplace on the deck offer the best of both worlds. Mornings on the deck with coffee and evenings under starry skies have become favorite rituals. Named *Great Escape Lodge*, the home is a gathering place for family reunions and holidays. “Everyone fits around the outdoor fire pit,” says John. “We roast marshmallows and tell the same stories. It’s a really cool moment—and exactly what we hoped for when we built this place.”
