The Log Home Academy

A step-by-step guide to Planning your own log home

Building a log home is a dream for many people, but the process can feel overwhelming without the right knowledge. The Log Cabin Academy was created to give you a clear path forward. Whether you're working with a builder or doing it yourself, we’ll guide you through decisions such as design, materials, site preparation, budgeting, and more.

We also invite you to explore our recent project, the Trumpower Road Retreat, where you can see the full building process in detail.

Learn the Process From Start to Finish

The Academy breaks down the journey into practical stages, helping you understand what to expect, how to prepare, and the decisions you’ll face along the way:

  • Setting a realistic budget
  • Choosing and evaluating property
  • Exploring styles of log homes
  • Determining room and space needs
  • Placing and orienting your home on the site
  • Converting a bubble drawing into a scaled sketch
  • Moving from concept drawings to preliminary plans
  • Developing final construction documents
  • Watching your home take shape during construction

Why We Built This Academy

Too many people either jump into building without a clear plan or hesitate for years because they don’t know where to start. The Log Cabin Academy is designed to change that. Our goal is to give you the confidence and understanding you need to move forward with your own log home.
